The death of Roger came as a shock to many. May he rest in eternal peace. We remember him well because of his attachment to Kenya where he was born. I love his song ''My land is Kenya". May he rest in peace

I always loved your music. I was in the US Navy and my favorite was Last Farewell. What a great, soothing voice. Sing with the Angels. RIP.

In my early 60s now, Roger's work has pretty much occupied my entire life. It's huge chunk of our generation that has left.

I had the pleasure of attending a recording of the BBC TV show “Whistlestop” in the late 1960s fronted by Roger. I loved his warmth and sense of humour. He had a beautiful voice with his record releases as well. My condolences to his family.

Very sorry to hear about the loss of Roger. Started listening to music in 1974 then Roger released Last Farewell in Australia in 1975 and then I Don’t Believe in If Anymore. Reviewed previous hits and appreciated the great singer he was. Sad loss.

You were part of my growing up years, your music is always with me and will always be. No question of a Last Farewell, Mr. Mexican Whistler. We will meet in Durham Town and see a New World in The Morning, Mr. Whittaker. Rest well.

As another mzungu who was brought up in Kenya in the 1950s may I add my memories of Roger. His father ran the grocery store Slater and Whittaker situated diagonally on the then main crossroads in Westlands. The property had a gabled front which was extremely unusual for Nairobi and would have been completely at place in England. Roger was an extremely well known guitar playing singer who at that time did not use his own name but sang under the name of Hank. Hank performed on a regular basis at the Equator Inn on the outskirts of Nairobi. This was both an hotel and eating establishment. I also recall Hank playing at his old school, the Prince of Wales, in their hall to raise money for the building of the new chapel. None of us had the slightest conception we were watching a future icon of the music industry. For me his greatest legacy was that Elvis Presley sang his masterpiece The Last Farewell. I spent the bulk of yesterday listening to both versions on YouTube along with all his other recordings. Kwaheri Bwana Roger. Kwenda pole pole.

I am profoundly sad at this news, roger was a wonderfully talented artist, many fine songs and also the ability to put his unique stamp on other artists songs! A long life well lived i guess! We will not see his like or talent again. Rip roger thank you for the music. God speed. ❤️🌹😢

I will always remember the kindness of Roger Whittaker when I was 10 years old and a budding reporter on the Saturday morning show for children on my local BBC radio station in the 1970s. I was given the chance to interview him and the experience confirmed my desire to be a journalist when I left school. I went on to interview hundreds of celebrities and politicians before I retired two years ago. But I’ve always fondly remembered my first-ever interview, especially when I heard one of his songs on the radio down the years. A true gentleman and a real artist. RIP.
