Very sad to hear Roger Whittaker has died. He was a wonderful singer & songwriter. Growing up in the 60s & 70s, his music was often played on our family record player. We bought his Durham Town single in 1969 - Mum loved his singing & Dad appreciated the link to his own roots in the north-east. In the 70s, we’d often listen to one of his compilation LPs - alongside Durham Town, personal favourites included I Don’t Believe in If Anymore, Why, New World in the Morning, Mexican Whistler, & The Last Farewell. To this day, I still love to play his songs (now mostly on CD) & in more recent years enjoyed his 1999 album Awakening. He’ll be very much missed but leaves behind many great songs & many precious memories for so many people.

So sad to hear of the passing of Roger Whittaker, whose wonderful music was, and always will be, one of the great joys of my life. Rest in peace my friend, and may you sail that candy cloud, and wake where the morning sun shines on a pine needle wall.

My father played 8 tracks of Roger's beautiful music back in the 1970's while he drove a big rig, tractor trailer cross country in the U.S. The combination of Roger's music and voice went along so well with the landscapes. Peace

My mother used to play his 8-track all through the 70's, and "The Last Farewell" will still always be one of my favorite songs of all time. My mom used to swoop me up in her arms on 127th and Morgan in Cal Park and sing it to me as a baby. While I don't remember those years much at all, I'll always connect this man with the deep, baritone vocal as one of the main influences on my musical tastes so early, along with Elvis, The Beatles and Black Sabbath. RIP, sir. Thank you for the music and a bond with my mother that I'll always keep sacred.

Hearing Roger's smooth baritone always takes me back to my childhood. My dad would sing along and the harmonies were soothing. Thank you for sharing your gift with us.

My husband and I were introduced to his fabulous music while my husband was stationed at Upper Hayford US Air Force base in England (1972-1975). I had not been a big fan of whistling until hearing him; afterwards, no one could touch his abilities. Thank you for wonderful memories, May God grant peace to his family during this difficult time.
