I was intrigued by Roger’s music many years ago because he is the only other man I have ever heard who could whistle like my Dad! Beyond that, I think that I may have been on the EAR&H railroad to Nairobi for school at some of the same times that Roger was as I went to school at Kijabe, Kenya for 2 years in the early 1960’s. I love his music and his style of singing. I have been to 2 live concerts and was thoroughly impressed that he of course sounded better in person than in recordings. I especially liked his songs about Kenya. I am sad to hear about his passing away. My sincere condolences to his family.
My late Fathers all time greatest artist. In the 80s surprised Dad with tickets for a show in Eastbourne, Was a magical night.
RIP
RIP Roger and thank you for the music and memories. Hope Mom let you get settled in Heaven before she came looking. My condolences to his family
RIP to one of the smoothest singers of all time…fortunate to see him in latter years at Cork Opera House. Goodbye son, was all we’d say.
R.I.P 😢🌹 Ty for the music, you was one of my big idol. I was to your last concert in Denmark in 2004, in Herning Congress Center. I have many of your CD and some few LP. To my wedding the musician, he play your song: You are my Miracle, on piano, it was one of the songs I had chosen in honor of my husband. Love your music. Rest In Peace. 😢🌹❤️
At 45, I was too young to enjoy Roger in his heyday, although we always have a soft spot for him here in the north-east, where his confusion of the Tyne and Wear in Old Durham Town (no doubt because it rhymed better) was the subject of much good-natured mirth. Rest in peace, Roger.
A gentleman with an incredible voice and life story. You have left us great memories and your music lives on. My condolences to his Rogers family and friends.
RIP Roger. His music has meant so much to me over the years. Beautiful, haunting, and moving. I had the privilege to see him perform live once and have been a fan for many years. My condolences to his family.
My late Dad introduced me to the music of Roger before he died in 1979 and Roger's music has lived with me ever since. It was a great joy to record "New world in the morning" for my first album. My sincere sympathies to all of Roger's family and his legions of fans. May Roger's soul rest in peace and may his music live forever 🙏
What sad news to hear of Roger's passing. Still hugely popular and heavily requested on Radio North to this day. We're thankful of the musical legacy he has left behind. Rest in peace Roger 🙏
RIP Roger. My Dad Brian was a huge fan of yours and dragged me along with my Mum to a concert of yours at St David's Hall in Cardiff in around the late 1980's. My Dad now suffers with Dementia and memories like going to your concert as a family are the memories I really cherish, when Dad was at his happiest x
Listened to Roger my whole life, in English and German.
His music is his legacy and it will live on forever.
Goodbye RW.😭
Your music was the soundtrack to my youth. Shimoni, My land is Kenya... such beautiful songs. Rest in eternal peace Roger. 🙏🏾
Your music has touched my soul since my parents introduced me to you back in the 1970s. Thank you for sharing your talents with the world - singing, whistling, storytelling - all so brilliant.
"So when you cry, don't grieve for me or for days that used to be. Don't you ever cry in sorrow. Cry with joy that we could feel love that is forever real, love so many only borrow."
For I loved you.
Rest in peace, Mr. Whittaker.
Roger's voice and his ability to create such evocative songs is his true legacy. His whistling on the "Sky Boat Song" with Des O'Connor is pure magic. RIP Roger, we'll miss you. Sincere condolences to Natalie and their family.
R.I.P. You will be dearly missed. My Mom was one of your greatest fans. She passed away 22 years ago. I grew up with your lovely songs. Wished I could show my Mom all the wonderful stuff I found today. What a fantastic whistler and entertainer! We met in a mall nearby once, where you gave us an autograph. My Mom was shocked you don't speak fluent German. You're songs in German are so well performed 😀 All the strength to your family members and close friends. Feel tightly hugged. Legends never die.
I was first introduced to Roger's music when I was still in diapers. I grew up loving his music. I always dreamed of seeing him in concert but wasn't old enough the last time he came to the States. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. My favorite song will always be I am but a Small Voice.
Thanks for the brilliant music
RIP Roger
Condolences to all the family
So sorry to hear of Roger’s passing. Music of my childhood, that lives on forever. I only saw him in concert once, but never forgotten. And his warmth comes though in his music
My parents were fans of Roger’s music and I grew up hearing it often. My parents attended one of his concerts and my mother was impressed with his amazing whistling ability, too.
