This is such sad news. I was a great fan of his music. Loved Charlie Mahon, the Last Farewell, I don't believe in if anymore and even By the time I get to Phoenix. Rest easy.

Such sad news and condolences to the Whittaker family. I grew up listening to your beautiful voice and even now your music can be so touching as it reminds me of my late mum watching you on telly in the 1970’s.

So sad to hear the passing of Mr. Whittaker. As child I remember "Last Farewell". It took me years to understand her tears. Now, as an adult, I'm more aware of these things, and it makes me appreciate the music even more. Thank you Mr. Whittaker for you wonderful songs. Godspped

I had a great entertaining night when my husband and I went to see and hear Roger Whittaker sing and whistle. He was so relaxed and quite the storyteller. My condolences to Roger's wife, children, and family.

One of the greatest songwriters and artists of modern times. His music has been an inspiration to me ever since I was a boy. Pure talent.

At the end of the sixties as as teenagers growing up in the UK we were suddenly aware of this singer, who our parents liked for his middle of the road songs and whistling skills. He suddenly produced a string of songs that resonated with the conscience of a young generation, about war, the environment and the emotional journeys in life. Rip Roger Whittaker.

I was very sad to hear the passing of my old friend. I met Roger for the first time aged 12, at the Nairobi Primary School. We were very close in his early years of singing in Nairobi, and I never missed a chance to go with friends to hear him sing, where he kept the audience enthralled with his unforgettable amazing voice. I was lucky to meet up with him back stage at four of his concerts here in the UK, and had a few meals with him. Sadly I lost touch with him when he and Natalie moved to France. Roger was a huge success wherever he performed, and was adored in Germany. I will miss you rafiki yangu ya samani sana, but hopefully we will meet up again, when you will be entertaining the angels with your beautiful voice. Natalie, I send you my sincere condolences, I know Roger will be very much missed by you and your daughters. God bless you. Jimmy.

I twice had the honour of Roger guesting on my radio programmes. He was kind, warm and great company ... but also very generous in the stories he shared. I specifically recall in 1986 when he was touring the UK promoting the excellent album 'The Genius Of Love', how I listened to it in disbelief at how his beautiful, rich voice fitted the contrasting styles of Mike Batt's 'Railway Hotel', the beautiful version of 'Only The Lonely' ... but especially the rock track 'Destiny'. To this day I have continued to surprise people by playing that track on-air and enjoy watching listeners' positive comments come piling in! I hope one day that magnificent album is released in the UK in digital form. His stories were amazing, but his music was always of a very high standard. Of course, people will remember the classics, but I will always remember meeting a man who was one of the nicest people in music I have ever met. My sincere condolences to Natalie and the family. Rest in peace, Roger. Your excellent work is done - thank you.
