As a young USAF SSgt. working for AFN Shape, I was lucky to do a radio interview with Roger at the Palace de Beaux Arts in Bruxelles, Belgium in the 1970's. AFN Europe submitted my interview to a US military contest and it won 2nd place. Because of that, my performance appraisal was signed by a General Officer and it gave me enough points to get promoted to TSgt. Years later, I met Roger back stage at a concert at the King Center in Melbourne FL and told him that. He laughed and said that's the 1st time he ever heard he was responsible for getting someone promoted in the military and was proud to have that honor. God bless you Roger...you can now sing for the angles in Heaven.

One of the greatest voices ever, and such a magnificent talent. Thankfully, we still have the CDs, the DVDs, and most of all, the memories. The concert from Edmonton in the 1970s that was televised, the Grey Cup game at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto, the Tivoli concert, his versions of Kilgary Mountain and Sloop John B, and so much more. Thank you, Roger, for everything.

I loved Roger Whittaker and I am profoundly saddened by his passing. This was a man who clearly loved singing and had a marvelous gift for storytelling through song and for deeply stirring the emotions of the listener.I know many people would often be moved to tears of joy and would often sing along when Roger sang one of his classic hits in person.I’ll be playing all my RW records this week in his memory.
