My forever favorite singer. There will be nobody like him. He was one of a kind. I have all his records, and I was lucky enough to see and hear him at three concerts in Norway. He gave me an incredible amount of joy over 54 years. I'm thinking of his family during this time of sadness. I'm very sorry for your profound loss.

A beautiful and fulfilled life of singing and cheerfulness has ended. My sincere and heartfelt condolences go to the family. What a talent he had..but always paired with modesty and staying down to earth. No scandals and more than 50 years of happy marriage; surrounded by children and grandchildren. A rare and sterling example to this modern world. And a big thank you for filling our lives with beautiful songs and whistling ..☺️

The saddest of news... A gentleman and class act, Roger will be deeply missed by his legions of fans the world over. My thoughts are with the Whittaker family, at this very difficult time.

It's hard to express the impact Mr. Whittaker's music has had on me. In some ways he was part of the music my Dad played, but in many more he was a formative part of my musical tastes. That he was classed as a folk singer never occurred to me until I read his obituaries. I have been on the fringes of the folk music community for a while now and I never connected it and him, but it's obvious now. Funny. My condolences to his friends and family. I'm glad he had a good life.

Love your voice, your songs always bring me back to happy days when my daddy would whistle along.... Guess my daddy was also one of the many good souls standing at the gate to welcome you up above.... RIP

I am so sorry to hear of you passing. I grew up with your songs in the 70’s and 80’s and often your records were playing on our radiogram. Your music was so easy to listen to, sing to and your voice crystal clear and understand. Thank you and god bless xxx

We shared a birthday. I sang your songs all my childhood and you are the only singer that never matched another in all my life. Fare thee well, Roger

Thank you for the Musik - Ruhe in Frieden

When I was a young man, I first saw commercials of Mr. Whittaker’s music on one of those Time-Life type ads. I was in awe that until then, I had not heard of him. Ever since, I have loved his music and was hoping to catch him in concert. Thank you sir for such wonderful music. Those songs will forever be in my playlist.

There are a few people who impact us without meeting. For Roger Whittaker was such a Kenyan. A warm, wild, and free Soul who loved his home and owned the memories of a great people of Kenya. My favourite Album he gave us was the Music Safari with great tunes. My Land is Kenya hitting a really warm cord in our hearts. He also loved the Railways as a passenger and many other scenic moments he gave vivid description. We cry with you at Shimoni and when we think of the earth environment crisis. We also mourn his demise and say farewell as he says good bye to the Indian Lady. We whistle But we know you have gone to that Higher place you described where someone else now picks those phones. Durham town may also be behind you we Whistle in great disbelief Rest well Mheshimiwa kikiyan i Kararan chichi iman. Rest well Elder you have a Golden heart and you are a real Burning Spear. May your memory be a blessing to all. https://www.facebook.com/groups/500662000093224/permalink/2481131508712920/?app=fbl

Roger was and indeed still is a legend. There's a great bouncy, little ditty which sadly wasn't publicly released on vinyl but is on YouTube. It's called Oh Life and always cheers me up. Take a moment to listen. Rest In Eternal Peace Roger
