Dear family,
My deepeat condoleances for your loss! Roger was one of my biggest inspirators and motivators, although I am to young to ever saw him perform live. His music will keep me going for the rest of my life. I wish you all strenght in this difficult time. He will be dearly missed! Love, Ruud
In the early 1990,s my family received a Signed Photo and message from Roger which really helped our son Cris and us (his Mom and Dad) through a very traumatic time.
Cris who was nine years old at the time had been diagnosed with leukaemia and was about to have a Bone Marrow transplant when we received this photo out of the blue. Someone must have contacted Roger and told him of Cris’s illness and of course his liking of Rogers music, he was always playing it.
Cris had the BMT at the Birmingham Children Hospital for which he had to stay in an isolation ward in the transplant unit for several weeks. Because of the length of the stay and the seriousness of the procedure he was allowed to take in what he wanted which included a CD player and of course a Roger Whittaker CD.
He or we used to play this CD daily during his stay, so much so Cris new the words of the songs off by heart.
Cris was very ill and we were close to losing him at one point waiting for the new marrow to take and grow. But grow it did and one day while having a shower he started singing Leaving On A Jet Plane at the top of his voice. We knew then he was feeling better.
So thank you Roger, God Bless and Rest in Peace
Deeply saddened to hear of Roger's passing his music was part of the soundtrack to my life since childhood and such a talented singer and musician and what a fantastic musical legacy he has left behind as his music will live on for future generations to discover, R.I.P to one of the greatest showbiz legends.
So sad to hear that Roger has gone on to higher service. I'm sure he was a lovely man. Loved his music and voice had such clarity. Rest In Peace dear man - never forgotten.
Condolences. Roger was one of my teachers at Delamere Boys School, Nairobi. He was a good teacher that we respected. Loved his music. RIP
As a child, I grew up listening to Roger. My mum would play him in the car and at home. His songs always bring back memories of a happy childhood. I am still in awe of his whistle!
Thank you for this gift. Rest in peace Roger
You gave me so much
Thank you
Natalie. I'm sorry to hear the news of Rogers passing.
I thought you were both a lovely couple and had a great family.
I still recall the time I took you both and Boris to the Vets in Toulouse. Best wishes Mark & Louise.
RIP Roger, loved your voice since my teens.
You'll be sadly missed xx
I am filled with profound sadness. His voice has filled our home for 49 years. No one else can fill those shoes.
Your songs were an accompaniment to much of my childhood as my parents listened to them on the radio or albums. And I loved them too. As an adult they can still move me and I can find myself humming or whistling them. A last farewell mr. Whittaker, rest in peace and thank you so much for all the wonderful music you have given us.
I’m so saddened to hear this news. I have loved him for 50 years when he first came to Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo. Have all his albums. He will live on forever!
As a child (I’m born 1968) I fell in love with your music. I just need to hear your name mentioned - and music starts in my mind and heart - not to forget the way you could whistle. A BIG THANK YOU. Rest in piece🙏🏽❤️
My sincere condolences to your family on Rogers's passing.
All of “Durham Town” will miss him.
An ex Kenyan, deepest condolences to your family. Loved My Land is Kenya and The last Farewell. Brings back memories of my dearest Mum who loved them too. RIP. Thank you for your wonderful songs.
I have his LPs, always will, and they will always be heard and played in our home, and in doing so, RW lives on. Thank You.
I deeply sad to hear of his passing. I had the privilege to meet Roger several times in Norway, England, Denmark and Germany. Roger will be remembered with love and kindness.
